We partnered with Regina Trades & Skills Centre (RTSC), Kenroc Building Supplies, and BP Canada to provide a free roofing system to Whitmore Park Child Care Cooperative (WPCCC), a non-profit daycare for forty children.
A storm last year ripped shingles from the daycare’s roof, exposing the wood underneath, and tore away tin siding. While replacing the roof was a major priority, the daycare lacked the funds to pay for it.
“We were trying to figure out a way to get this project completed without taking money against our mortgage or raising child care fees dramatically,” said Tasha Balkwell, executive director of WPCCC.
Students from RTSC’s residential roofing class installed the roofing system, which provided valuable, real-life experience.
At Wheatland, we believe in developing skilled roofers who understand the components and complexities of roofing systems, and we’re proud of our continuing partnership with RTSC. We also believe in giving back to the community and are happy we could help such a deserving recipient like WPCCC.
